Around the house
* Dry mop or vacuum hardwood floors frequently. Apply two thin coats of paste wax or a solvent-based liquid wax to clean floors. Allow to dry thoroughly and buff in the direction of the wood grain with an electric polishing machine.
* Clean edges of carpet along stairways and baseboards. Vacuum with a hand wand attachment. In between vacuuming, use a damp towel to remove dust.
* Avoid messy broiler pan. Pour a cup or two of water in the bottom before broiling.
In the garden
* Divide summer-blooming varieties of perennials that have grown too large. Blooms will increase on the new plantings within a few years.
