A wallet found outside a bedroom window led police to a Glen Burnie man who has been charged with the sexual assault and robbery of a 78-year-old woman.

James Roy Sutton, 32, of the 300 block of Glouchester Drive, was also charged with theft and destruction of property, police said.

Police said the woman was asleep in the bedroom of her home about4 a.m. Sunday when she awoke to the sound of a man rummaging throughher belongings on the top of her dresser.

When the intruder saw that the woman had awakened, he threw a blanket over her face. He threatened to kill her unless she gave him money.

The woman told the man she kept some cash in a desk in another bedroom. The man went to look for it, but returned empty-handed.

Police said the man yanked her out of her bed and kicked her as he dragged her into the other room, demanding the money. The woman took about $100 from a drawer and gave it to him.

While she was on the floor, the man fondled her, police said.

Although the man threatened to come back and shoot herif she called for help, she called police.

Investigators said thebedroom window screen was cut and a patio chair placed under the window. Nearby was a wallet containing Sutton's driver's license.

Police later found Sutton at a gas station on Aquahart Road. He had an inexpensive necklace that belonged to woman, police said.

Investigators said the woman's grandson was visiting Sutton's nephew the day before the break-in, and Sutton asked the grandson for a ride.

During the ride, he asked the woman's grandson if his grandmother lived alone, police said.
