Coach: Joe Russo, 14th year

1990 record: 3-7

Returnees: Seniors Brian Magill (QB/RB/S), Brian Holmes (LB/G), Chris Thompson (FB/LB), Keith Chance (LB/RB), Bryan Hunt (DT/T), Boo Barnard (TE/LB), Andre Boone (RB/LB), Andre Hopkins (DB/RB), Jesse Pitt (DE/G); juniors Danny Boone (T/DT), Brian Triantatillos (C/LB), Kelvin Stevens (WR/DB).

Newcomers to watch: Juniors Lars Unjhem (T/LB), Matt Cyran (CB/RB), Kris Jefferson (WR/CB), Kwame Crawford (DT), Erin Woodward (RB/S), Rudy Cooper (QB).

Coach's outlook: "It's the biggest team we've ever had, and these kids are the strongest kids I've ever had. We look like a small college team, but we don't play like one. We're not going to be very explosive. We're trying to be a ball control offense. If we can get an early lead and control the game on defense, we'll be good."

Howard County Sun outlook: The Bears have unquestionably the heaviest team in the league, what with a line averaging 247 pounds. How that translates into victories remains to beseen, since Hammond is coming off its worst season in a decade. Eleven starters return. Cooper, moving up from the junior varsity at quarterback, is the key.
