Coach's comments: "We're young. We scrimmaged Walkersville and we didn't look very good, and we scrimmage Altoona (Pa.) and it's the first year we didn't look very good against them. I think it's because we're young. We haven't been healthy yet and we probably won't be completely healthy until the first game. I think speed is our strength."

The Carroll County Sun's outlook: Rich Coffey returns to direct the offense, and that alone will be a big help to Linganore. But they'll have a lot of holes to fillfrom last year's team. The running game could revolve around Ronnie McGarvey, a defensive standout last year who looks to be a top threatto carry the ball this year. He was times at 4.35 seconds in the 40-yard -- at a Penn State football camp over the summer, and that speedhas Carruthers justifiably excited. But the veteran coach says he goes five deep with running backs without much drop off in talent though there is some drop off in speed). Figure the Lancers to develop in time for the CMC season. A grueling non-league schedule featuring Allegany, Oakland Mills of Howard County and South River of Anne ArundelCounty -- almost assures that. They'll end the season with another non-league game against Georgetown Prep from Washington.
