A 21-year-old Baltimore County man who pleaded guilty to killing the mother of his estranged girlfriend after an argument was sentenced to life in prison yesterday by Balti- more Circuit Judge John C. Themelis.
Kevin M. Robinson of the 100 block of Nunnery Lane told Judge Themelis that he did not remember what happened last Jan. 16 when he stabbed 42-year-old Thelma Mozell Welborn after an argument at Ms. Welborn's home in the 400 block of Random Road in Southwest Baltimore.
Robinson, who had been the boyfriend of Ms. Welborn's daughter, apparently was distraught that their relationship had ended, according to prosecutors. He went to the Welborn home and got into an argument with Ms. Welborn and her daughter, Stephanie Savoy.
The fight escalated, and Robinson repeatedly stabbed Ms. Welborn and beat Ms. Savoy.
Robinson pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, burglary and two counts of assault.
Judge Themelis said that he was imposing the life sentence because of the "selfish" action of the defendant. He said that Robinson refused to accept "no" from his girlfriend and "what he wanted became paramount . . . it wasn't what any one else wanted."
In addition, Judge Themelis sentenced Robinson to 30 years for burglary and 20 years for each assault count.
