Thomas Allen Swann


A memorial mass for Thomas Allen Swann, a retired insurance executive, will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Bryantown.

Mr. Swann, 77, died of pneumonia July 18 at Prince George's Hospital Center in Cheverly. Born in La Plata, Mr. Swann had lived in Severna Park for 17 years.

Mr. Swann retired in 1972 as vice president of the International Railroad Department of Alexander & Alexander Insurance Underwriters. He had worked for 40 years in the firm's Baltimore and New York offices. He also served on the board of directors of Southern Maryland Oil Co. in La Plata.

A graduate of La Plata High School, Mr. Swann attended the University of Maryland in College Park.

Mr. Swann enjoyed boating, gardening and golf, and was a member of the Chartwell Country Club.

Survivors include his wife, the former Cecile Edelen; three sons, Allen Swann of Westport, Conn., Harold Swann of Gillette, N.J., and William Swann of Maplewood, N.J.; a daughter, Lynne Falcon of Santiago, Chile; a brother, William Swann of Rocky River, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
