Cheryl Jones Telford is the new manager of the Riviera Beach branch of the Anne Arundel County Public Library. The branch is at 1130 Duvall Highway.

Telford, an Annapolis resident, began her job June 17.Her responsibilities include all branch operations, including training and supervising staff, evaluating branch collection and overseeingservices to patrons.

The Riviera Beach branch is among the busiest of the library system's community branches, with an average monthly check-out rate of more than 25,000 materials.

Telford joined the library system in 1978 as a library associate at the North County branch in Glen Burnie, where she worked for eight years. After earning a master's degree in library science from the University of Maryland in 1986, she was promoted to a librarian position at the Crofton branch.

Most recently she worked behind the information desk at the Annapolis branch, where she coordinated business reference services and supervised three staff members and 21 volunteers.

A native of Iowa, she was raised in Des Moines and received a bachelor of arts degree in sociology and criminology from the University of Iowa in 1974.

She is president of the Government Information Division of the Maryland Library Association and a member of the American Library Association and the Public Library Association.
