WBFF hires boss WJZ expands early morning newscast

More changes were announced on the local television scene yesterday, as WBFF-TV named a new general manager and WJZ-TV said it was adding a half hour of news weekday at 5:30 a.m.

Steve Marks, 34, is the new general manager at Channel 45, replacing Bruce Lumpkin who was fired last month shortly after the launch of the station's 10 p.m. news show.

"The job is a step up the ladder for me," Marks said yesterday. Marks was general sales manager at WTTE-TV in Columbus, Ohio, one of Channel 45's sister stations in the Sinclair Broadcast Group. He starts here July 29.

Channel 13's announcement of more news, meanwhile, comes less than a week after WBAL-TV (Channel 11) canceled its 5 p.m. newscast.

Channel 13's expanded "Eyewitness News Early Edition," wit Don Scott and Marty Bass, will begin Aug. 12.
