Patience was the key of the holiday weekend at 75-80 Dragway in Monrovia, Frederick County, and Union Bridge's Mike Stambaugh was more than willing to wait until Saturday to capture the Class II contest in his Fairmont.

After rain washed out most of Thursday's and Friday's action, Stambaugh came up big on Saturday to edge out Roger Jorss of Sykesville as the two Carroll countians split the first- and second-place money.

In other weekend action:

* Westminster's Gary Stuhler capturedhis second straight 20-lap late-model feature Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa.

Hampstead's Charlie Shaffer settled for third in the event.

In the 30-lap Daryl Gohn Memorial earlier on Friday, former Woodbine resident Cris Eash, now a resident of Hanover, Pa., finished second behind Don Kreitz Jr.

On Wednesday, Eash finished sixth in the Mitch Smith Memorial for sprint cars.

* It was a busy weekend at Hagerstown Speedway in Washington County, starting with the twin-20 lap features Wednesday, which saw Schaffer finish fifth in the first race and second in the final event. Hecame back Sunday to finish third in the 35-lap late-model feature.

Stuhler took ninth in the race.

* Stuhler settled for second in the annual Lee Tultz Memorial at Winchester (Va.) Speedway Saturday. He started 12th in the 40-lap main event but used an inside move to pass Denny Bonebrake for first place. Eventual winner Nathan Durboraw took second from Bonebrake on lap 26, took the lead from Stuhler six laps later and never looked back.

Schaffer finished fifth.

* Taneytown's Dave Green captured his second thundercar feature of the year Saturday at Lincoln Speedway in Hanover, Pa.

On Thursday, Greenfinished third in the 12-lap thundercar feature.

Westminster's Rick Jones was a heat winner.

Eash finished fourth in the Coor's 30-lap super sprint feature, also Saturday at Lincoln. He remains in fifth place in the WSBA Busch Cup Racing Series sprint car championship.
