Mental health, rehabilitation centers need some help

CURRENT volunteer news and needs:

Walter P. Carter Center, a mental health care facility at 630 W. Fayette St., needs volunteers in various departments. Call Jayne Heck-Hackley, 328-2218.

Maryland Rehabilitation Center, 2301 Argonne Drive, which provides evaluation and training services for disabled adults, needs volunteers to help with the evaluation process for clients, and also to help in the library and various training departments. For more information call 554-3014.

Coors Literacy Luminary Search. A national campaign to promote family literacy is offering $5,000 to individuals, plus a matching gift to a literacy organization, who have "exhibited exemplary strength and determination in fighting illiteracy" in major cities throughout the country. Nomination forms are available by calling Coors Literacy Hotline, (800) 348-2337.

Volunteers for Medical Engineering are planning an eight-day cruise to benefit their organization. It begins Nov. 16 from the Baltimore Harbor on the Queen Elizabeth II. For complete details call 455-6395 or (800) 344-5656.
