192 entered in Stroke Play championship

Defending champion William Stout, perennial contender Larry Storck and two-time Baltimore Publinx champion Walt Grabowski are among the leading entries in the 24th annual Maryland Stroke Play championship this weekend.

There are 192 entries, each with a USGA index of 5.2, in the 54-hole amateur event, which begins this morning at Mount Pleasant Golf Course.

Among the other entries are former champions Bill Dornbusch, Bob Kaestner, and Greg Henry; long-drive specialists Jeff Fick and Rick Hudak; and former Maryland State Amateur winners David King, Gary Moore, Jim O'Hara, and Buddy Peoples.

A year ago, Stout, from Germantown Country Club, defeated Storck, from the CC of Maryland, in a playoff after the two had tied at 218.

Grabowski, who plays from Mount Pleasant, comes into the event fresh from winning his second Publinx title. He successfully defended with rounds of 73 at Mount Pleasant and 72 at Forest Park.
