Local man gets TV show

Area viewers can tune in to the latest chapter in the remarkable life of Glen Burnie's Montel B. Williams starting next week.

WMAR-TV (Channel 2) will air "The Montel Williams Show," a nationally syndicated weekday talk show, starting at 11 a.m. Monday. The one-hour program, taped in Los Angeles, will be carried through the rest of the summer on a trial basis, a station spokesman said yesterday. The program began airing in other cities last week.

Williams, 35, is a graduate of Andover High School and the United States Naval Academy. After a much-decorated career as a Naval intelligence officer, he resigned his commission as a lieutenant commander in 1989 to pursue a full-time career of motivational speaking; much of his work is with young people.

The new show will focus on such topics as abortion, televised executions, the differences in the way men and women communicate, soap opera stars and female athletes.
