WIMBLEDON, England -- From the lost-and-found department comes this item: Monica Seles has been staying at Donald Trump's Palm Beach, Fla., estate.
According to reports in yesterday's New York Post, Seles and her parents have been staying at Trump's Mar-A-Lago. The world's top-ranked women's player and reigning Australian Open and French Open champion pulled out of the tournament here four days before the event had begun.
Seles' mysterious withdrawal was even the topic of conversation in a news conference involving Arantxa Sanchez Vicario. She was quoted in German newspapers as saying Seles was having a relationship with Italian player Erico Cocchi.
"I don't know anything about it. And I don't know this guy," Sanchez said. "So I don't know why they have to put my name on it. I just know what they put in the newspapers like the other players, but I didn't say one word about it. So that is not true. I didn't say one word."
