Old Mill graduate Anne Sugden, a senior on the Towson State University gymnastics team, was named to the GTE third-team Academic All-American At Large team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

A four-year standout for the Tigers' nationally ranked gymnastics team, Sugden closed out a stellar career as the third-leading scorer in TSU gymnastics history.

The best performer on bars in Towson State history, she was the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference's bars champion as a freshman and junior.

Sugden also won the ECAC beam championship this past season. She holds the Towson State record on bars with a 9.80 and shares the ECAC bars record with a 9.75 mark. She led the Tigers to four straight ECAC championships and four consecutive appearances in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Southeast regionals.

The GTE Academic All-American honor is another award for one of the most decorated student-athletes in TSU history. A mathematics/computer science major with a 3.76 grade-point average, Sugden also was honored as the ECAC Scholar-Athlete for gymnastics this past year.

She was also presented with the TSU Alumni Association's Academic Achievement Award as the most outstanding senior scholar-athlete at Towson State. She was also honored at Towson State's Female Athlete of the Year this past season.

Last year, Sugden won the Joseph Neubert Award as Towson State's most outstanding junior mathematics major. As a junior,she also led the Tiger gymnastics team to the NCAA national championship meet at Oregon State University where Towson finished ninth in the nation.
