12 injured in bus-car crash

Twelve people were hurt last night when a Mass Transit Administration bus and a Honda Accord collided at East 36th Street and Loch Raven Boulevard, police said.

The crash, which occurred at 10:51 p.m., sent the bus driver, six bus passengers and the five occupants of the car to Union Memorial, Francis Scott Key and Johns Hopkins hospitals with internal injuries and broken bones, police said. The names of the injured were not available early this morning.

Police think that either the bus, carrying seven passengers, or the Honda, occupied by a family of five, ran a red light. The bus was heading east on 36th Street, and the Honda was southbound on Loch Raven.

Juanita Holloway, who lives on 36th Street, was in bed when the she hear the crash. "The impact was tremendous," she said.

The collision spun the Honda around in the intersection and crushed its front end. The bus ran onto the sidewalk of 36th Street, uprooted a tree and hit another tree head-on before coming to a stop in a yard about 200 feet east of the intersection.
