3 suspects sought in stabbing of 2 Nigerian men

The authorities yesterday were searching for three men who were seen leaving the Baltimore County apartment complex in which two Nigerians were stabbed to death with what the police described as a samurai-style sword.

"It was a pretty brutal scene inside" said a county police spokesman, Sgt. Stephen R. Doarnberger. The apartment was at the Twin Ridge Apartments in the 1800 block of Rambling Ridge Lane.

Sergeant Doarnberger said that homicide investigators were able to speak with both victims before they died, but he refused to say what either man had said.

The police identified the victims as Chidi A. Ezeanya, 30, who lived in the apartment, and Phillip O. Anyaorah, 30, of the 2200 block of Pinewood Avenue, who had been visiting Mr. Ezeanya. Both men were from Nigeria, the police said.

Sergeant Doarnberger said residents of the building reported hearing a disturbance just after 11 p.m. before seeing the three men leave the victim's apartment. The sword believed to be the only weapon involved in the slaying was found in the apartment, the sergeant said.

"We're saying that robbery appears to be the motive but we just can't quite figure it out," said E. Jay Miller, another county police spokesman. He said there was no question that the two men "were targeted," although he did not know the reason. The spokesman said no drugs were found inside the apartment.
