Columbia driver hits truck, is killed mB

A 26-year-old Columbia man died instantly early yesterday when he drove his van into a street-cleaning truck stopped on Interstate 70 in Baltimore County, state police said.

Robert Scott Loveless was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident just before 1 a.m. after his 1973 Ford van plowed into the back of a State Highway Administration street cleaner in the left lane of I-70 west of Rolling Road, police said.

The driver of the automatic street cleaner, Brian Evans of Glen Burnie, was outside the vehicle gathering large debris when he saw the van speeding toward the back of the truck and ran into the median strip, said Sgt. Amos Tracey.

A few minutes after the accident, a woman drove her car into the van, but the woman, identified as Anita Wheatley, 33, and her 14-month-old baby were not injured, police said.
