Freezing tips

THE BALTIMORE EVENING SUN

* If the electricity goes out, do not open the freezer door unless absolutely necessary, and then only for the shortest time possible.

A full or nearly full freezer will preserve food for about 10 hours if the door isn't opened.

* Fifty pounds of dry ice, placed in freezer soon after power failure, will prevent thawing for two to three days if door is kept closed.

* The fuller your freezer, the less chance food will thaw.

* Check contents for damage after power is restored.
