Man hunted in rape, theft at restaurant

Baltimore County police continued to search for a man who NTC forced his way into an Italian restaurant in Owings Mills and raped a 28-year-old female employee after taking several thousand dollars from a safe.

The attacker, described as a black man in his 40s, 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 190 pounds, forced his way into the Fiori Restaurant at Painters Mill and Dolfield roads at 7:55 a.m. yesterday as the woman was opening the restaurant.

"She came in the rear door and turned to lock the door and the suspect forced it open and forced her inside," said E. Jay Miller, a county police spokesman.

Once inside, he asked her where the money was and forced her to a third-floor office, Miller said. Brandishing an automatic pistol, the man forced her to open the safe and took several thousand dollars, he said.

The gunman then took the woman back downstairs and threatened to put her in a freezer. When she resisted, Miller said, he put her into a storage closet and raped her. The gunman left with two white money bags, Miller said.

Anyone with information about the rapist, also described as having a 2-day-old growth beard, gray T-shirt and dark pants, can call the Garrison precinct at 887-1570.

The rape was reported at 8:15 a.m. yesterday, police said. Shortly afterward, construction workers spotted a man on Owings Mills Boulevard who matched the rapist's description and told police but could not provide details.
