Robert Davidson Prettyman, a retired automobile salesman and U.S. Postal Service employee, died Saturday of Alzheimer's disease at the Millsboro Nursing Home in Millsboro, Del. He was 81.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Newnam funeral establishment in Easton.
Born in Ridgely, Mr. Prettyman moved to Easton with his family after his father's death in 1919 and attended Easton High School. He lived in Easton for most of his life, until he moved to Preston three years ago to live with a daughter.
He had been in the nursing home for 1 1/2 years.
Mr. Prettyman worked at a local dry-cleaning plant until 1936, when he obtained a custodial job at the Easton post office. During World War II, he became a rural route carrier -- a position he held until January 1976.
From 1943 until 1986, he also owned a poultry farm in Caroline County.
Mr. Prettyman is survived by his wife, the former Elmyra E. Porter, whom he married in 1931; two daughters, Reanie P. Stinson of Preston and Bobbi P. Lednum of Fenwick Island, Del.; a sister, Frances P. Detrich of Easton; five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
