DH Clark wants out of Boston

Jack Clark, unhappy as the Boston Red Sox's designated hitter, says he wants to be traded.

"When I signed with the Red Sox, they told me I'd be playing part of the time at first base, part of the time in the outfield and part of the time as a DH," Clark said in an interview in the San Francisco Chronicle published today. "But I haven't played an inning in the field, not even in spring training."

Clark, 35, who signed a three-year, $9 million free-agent contract during the off-season, is hitting .205.

* PHILLIES: Outfielder Lenny Dykstra appeared in court in Media, Pa., yesterday for a preliminary hearing on a charge of drunken driving and left in silence after posting $1 bail.

District Justice Beverly Foster set the arraignment for July 25.

* DENVER: The City Council has given initial approval for the area's prospective National League expansion team to use Mile High Stadium rent-free.

* EXPOS: Less than 24 hours after being suspended for refusing to report to a farm team, catcher Nelson Santovenia has indicated he'll accept the demotion.

* DODGERS: Lenny Harris, batting .316, will be given the chance to play regularly at third base, ending the platoon he has been in since April 8 with Jeff Hamilton, who is batting .222.
