Valenzuela signed a one-year contract with a club option for 1992.
* EXPANSION: Commissioner Fay Vincent is expected to announce his decision today about the allocation of the $190 million in entrance fees to be paid by the two winning cities in the National League expansion chase, according to The Orlando Sentinel.
The NL is fighting to keep the entire $190 million pot. The AL has asked for at least one-third of the money.
NL expansion committee chairman Douglas Danforth said the commissioner's decision will not interfere with the committee's selection of winning cities or delay the voting on the two teams by owners next Wednesday in Santa Monica, Calif.
The expansion committee, which is expected to meet again this week, will reveal its recommendation approximately six hours before the leagues meet to debate and vote on expansion, Philadelphia Phillies president Bill Giles said yesterday.
* PHILLIES: Dale Murphy was showered with standing ovations last night on his first appearance in Atlanta since the Braves traded him on Aug. 3.
"I know I will be a visitor tonight, but this will always be my home," Murphy said during a 25-minute tribute before the game.
