The chief deputy clerk of the county Circuit Court has resigned to take a job with the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank in Washington, D.C.
Robert E. Moffit's resignation becomes effective June 10, Clerk of Court Mary M. Rose said yesterday. She said Moffit,45, of Severna Park, has accepted an offer to become deputy directorof domestic policy for the Heritage Foundation.
Moffit, whose last day of work at the courthouse was Friday, was vacationing in Florida yesterday and was unavailable for comment. He had been named chief deputy clerk in January as part of a controversial shake-up following an upset victory by Rose, a Republican, in lastNovember's election.
Moffit, a former deputy assistant secretary of the federal Department of Health and Human Services and a congressional liaison with the federal Office of Personnel Management, had been working as a health-care consultant for a Washington, D.C., firm.
Rose said she probably will wait until the new fiscal year begins July 1 before hiring a replacement for Moffit. She said she has threefinalists in mind for the $47,000-a-year job but would not divulge their names or say whether they currently work at the courthouse.
