Plans are under way for Sunfest '91

Plans are under way for Sunfest '91, Ocean City's popular fall festival on the inlet.

Food booths, entertainment, a treasure hunt, old-fashioned bathing suit contest and a kite festival are among activities that have kept Sunfest popular for the past 17 years. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 19-21 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 22.

Amusement park features circus

Under a big top tent, the Royal Hanneford Circus is performing three shows a day at 4:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. through Labor Day at Jolly Roger Amusement Park, 30th Street and Coastal Highway.

The show is included in the $3 general admission charge, which also covers magic shows and entrance to the petting zoo. Magic shows are held daily at 3 p.m., 6 p.m., 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Children under 2 are admitted free to the park.

Worcester towns on O.C. bus route

Buses operated by Worcester County began traveling from Pocomoke City, Snow Hill, Berlin and Ocean Pines to Ocean City and back last weekend. Bus fare is $1 or $2 depending on the distance. For information about the route and schedule, call 632-3110.

Parent Network aids youths in O.C.

Parents concerned about their sons and daughters while they are in Ocean City can contact a Parent Network, created by the Ocean City Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Committee.

Local volunteers check on the location and safety of the youths for the parents. A prevention committee provides information about local services and puts the youths in touch with their parents. Call 723-3700.

Fishing tournaments planned for summer

There will be several fishing tournaments in Ocean City this summer. Scheduled in June are the Ocean City Bluefish Tournament, June 13-16, at Shantytown in West Ocean City, and the Shark Tournament, June 27-30, at the Bahia Marina.

The biggest tournament will be the 18th annual White Marlin Open, Aug. 4-9, at the Harbour Island Marina, which will have fishing and food booths. Call 289-9229.
