At Cockpit: Shakespeare set in the '60s

Cockpit in Court opens its 19th season Thursday with a rendition of Shakespeare's "As You Like It" updated to the

1960s. Directed by Carol Mason, the romantic comedy will be presented outdoors in the Courtyard Theatre at Essex Community College Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 7 p.m. through June 16. Tickets are $7.

The rest of the season consists of the musicals "Annie Get Your Gun," "They're Playing Our Song" and "Brigadoon"; a children's production of "The Sleeping Beauty"; and Neil Simon's entire autobiographical trilogy: "Brighton Beach Memoirs," "Biloxi Blues" and "Broadway Bound." @ Max Ophuls' 1948 classic "Letters from an Unknown Woman" leads off the 1991 summer film series -- titled "Technologies of Memory" -- at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions tomorrow night at 7:30. A discussion will follow the screening, to be held in the auditorium of the Preclinical Teaching Building (northeast corner of Monument and Wolfe streets).

All screenings will be held on Monday nights at the same time and place, and are free and open to the public. Other films include "Hiroshima, Mon Amour," June 10; "Sunset Boulevard," June 17; "Veronika Voss," June 24; "Vertigo," July 1; "San Soleil," July 8; "Pursued," July 15; and "Fanny and Alexander," July 22.

Call 955-3363 for more information. The Jazzmatics will join with jazz sextet Moon August Thursday at 7 p.m. to open the La Provence Thursday Night Concert Series, which runs each week through Aug. 1 at Hopkins Plaza in downtown Baltimore.

Now in its second year, the series will present performances by Aleta Greene, Mama Jama, the Joe Cooper Project, Kim Waters, the a cappella singing group Regency, T&T; Steel Orchestra, Deanna Bogart and the reggae band Uprising. All concerts are free. Call 752-8632 for more information.
