Michael-Magic matchup turned down by Ch. 45, too

THE BALTIMORE EVENING SUN

Finally, NBC has received the dream mini-series it yearned for when it wrested the NBA away from CBS: Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan, starring in "From Here to Hoopternity: The NBA Championship Series."

However, the first part of that mini-series, Game 1 of the finals between Chicago and Los Angeles, will not play here in Baltimore, as WMAR (Channel 2) is pre-empting Sunday's 3:30 p.m. showdown for the Children's Miracle Network Telethon.

NBC apparently has contacted stations in the area to gauge their interest in carrying the game, but one station, WBFF-TV 45, has declined.

"There are too many intangibles for us," said Michael Schroeder, program and promotions director at Ch. 45, citing the station's commitment to mobilizing for Monday's premiere of its one-hour News at Ten.

No word yet from WNUV-TV 54 if it is interested in broadcasting the game.
