Bays add exhibition game at RFK SOCCER

THE BALTIMORE SUN

The Maryland Bays will meet Catuense of Brazil, a first-division team, in an exhibition game at 4 p.m. June 9 at RFK Stadium, giving the team a total of five games at RFK this season.

Unlike the June 16 game at RFK against Millonarios of Colombia, this game will not count in the American Professional Soccer League standings. It will give the Bays two games in two days, following the team's June 8 game against the Miami Freedom at 7 p.m. at Cedar Lane Park in Columbia.

Bays coach Gary Hindley said the added exhibition game luckily fit into the team's schedule.

"We wouldn't have been able to play it on a day before a league game," said Hindley. "It will be a nice game for our team because we will be playing a talented team that features a short passing game, extremely skillful play at all positions and a very creative team."

Hindley said that Maryland's U.S. National team players, Desmond Armstrong, Bruce Murray and Jeff Agoos, would not be available for the game against Catuense.

The Catuense-Bays game will be the first part of a June 9 soccer doubleheader at RFK, with the U.S. Select team meeting the El Salvador Olympic team at in the second game at 6 p.m.
