Due to a production error, a story in one edition of The Evening Sun yesterday incorrectly reported that Melanie Smith, valedictorian at Western High School, would be attending St. Mary's College of Maryland this September.

In fact, Smith has been named a Meyerhoff Scholar at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, where she plans to study biology. The Meyerhoff program offers full four-year scholarships and support worth more than $50,000 to black students pursuing careers in science, medicine, engineering and technology.

The Evening Sun regrets the error.
