Gilman wins, 15-8, evens series with Southern at 1-1 MSA B baseball

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Gilman School kept its hopes for back-to-back Maryland Scholastic Association B Conference baseball titles alive by beating visiting Southern, 15-8, yesterday in Game 2 of the best-of-three championship series.

Southern won Game 1, 9-4, Tuesday. Game 3 originally was scheduled for tomorrow, but Southern has exams that day. Gilman has exams Monday and Tuesday, which makes Wednesday the next possible date for the game, which will be played at a neutral site, probably Calvert Hall.

Yesterday, Gilman took a 10-3 lead in the fourth inning, scorinseven with the help of five errors, a passed ball, a wild pitch, two walks, an RBI double by Jamal Cox and an RBI single by James Sharkey.

"We had no choice but to go out and play hard," said Cox, who also had an RBI single. "Last year, we hit him [Southern pitcher Jerry Gastiger] pretty well in the championship game."

Scott Allan led off the bottom of the first for Gilman with a home run and later walked twice. David Shapiro singled and also walked twice.
