Towson's Surge

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Congratulations to the Towson State Tigers, who barged uninvited into the clubby little world of top class lacrosse. They weren't even supposed to be in the NCAA tournament with their record, some said. And then eleventh-seeded Towson humbled sixth-seed University of Virginia, third-seed Princeton and seventh-seed University of Maryland to reach the championship game.

Alas, the ultimate win was not to be. No team was going to beat the University of North Carolina, with its depth, this year. Towson came as close, in its third-period surge, as any team all season.

Lacrosse, baseball, basketball. It's getting hard to find a NCAA tournament that Towson State University is not in. Male and female, athletically and academically, the second-largest undergraduate school in the University of Maryland System is gaining respect.
