The third and fourth in a series of five state-approved continuing education classes for insurance professionals will be presented at 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 28 and 30 at Anne Arundel Community College.
"Reinsurance and Excess" examines the purpose and function of reinsurance and covers the importance and differing types of excess and umbrella policies. Topics include coverage formats, buffer layer coverages,primary coverage and effects on excess/umbrella, treaties, pools andreinsurance markets.
From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 4 and 6, insurance professionals can learn "Underwriting Basics" at the college's BWI Center in Linthicum.
The class provides an overview of fundamentals and covers establishment and implementation of underwriting policy, the distinction between staff and line underwriting activities and centralized vs. decentralized underwriting activities.
Discussions will include property liability insurance, package and account underwriting.

BUSINESS EXCHANGE '91
The Greater Annapolis Chamber of Commerce and the Northern Anne Arundel County Chamber of
Commerce will co-sponsor the 1991 Great Business Exchange from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 30, at the Annapolis Holiday Inn, off Riva Road in Annapolis.
The trade show will feature exhibitors showcasing retail, financial, healthcare, travel hospitality and other area business services, and is expected to draw hundreds ofattendees.
As an added draw, two roundtrip Continental Airline tickets donated by Rob Chodos, president of Travel Right Ltd., will be the grand prize given away during the show. Attendees will be encouraged to participate in the "1991 Great Match" game during the show. Other prizes will be given away during the show.

The West County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Small Business Forum from 5 to 6 p.m. May 30 at the Golden Flame Lounge in Odenton.

NEW HECHINGER TO OPEN
The second Hechinger Home Project Center in the county will open atthe Southdale Shopping Center on Mountain Road in Pasadena June 1.
The newly renovated center follows on the heels of the March opening of the Glen Burnie Home Project Center. Hechinger Home Project Centers offer support for the four most common home improvement projects cited by do-it-yourselfers: bath, kitchen, doors/windows and decks.
The Southdale center covers 70,000 square feet of indoor space and 19,300 square feet of outdoor selling space. The concept for the centers evolved out of extensive feedback from 3,500 Hechinger customers regularly involved in home improvement projects. The stores layout isarranged and distinctively marked for quick, direct access to everything needed for each particular project.
The store began renovations in January of this year, including widening and rearranging of aisles, installing outdoor registers, and more.
The Landover-based Hechinger Co. , which operates a chain of 84 stores and 26 Home Quarters Warehouse stores as well as six Triangle Building Centers in 14 states and the District of Columbia. , caters to specialty do-it-yourself market.
MTAM GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Marine Trades Association of Maryland and the Anne Arundel Marine Trades Association are sponsoring a MTAM Golf Tournament beginning 10 a.m. June 3 at the Eisenhower Golf Course, Crownsville.
A variety of prizes will be offered during the tournament, including a new powerboat for a hole-in-one and two round trip airline tickets to anywhere in the continental U.S. After a10 a.m. registration, the golfing will begin with an 11 a.m. shotgunstart.
Registration is $90 per golfer, $500 for corporate sponsorship, $200 for hole sponsorship, and tee or green sponsorship $125.

JOB MARKET WORKSHOPS
The Severna Park YWCA Woman's Center at 17 Cypress Creek Road is offering workshops designed for men and womenwho are entering the job market, exploring career potential, or changing careers. Workshops are Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. June 4 through July 9.
The workshop, also offered 10 a.m. to noon June 5 through July 10 at the Woman's Center, 167 Duke of Gloucester St. in Annapolis, will focus on preparing for the job search through self-exploration. The second will deal with skills identification and research tools, and two workshops will be spent on resume writing. The fifth meeting will cover job hunting strategies, and the last will focus on interviewing techniques. The fee for all six workshops will be $40 plus the $20 YWCA membership. In one of the largest Annapolis City commercial lease transactions this year, Annapolis Accents, a decorative hardware and plumbing fixture store, has leased 9,300 square feet of space at 220 Chinquapin Round Road in Annapolis.
Willie Enright of Mani & Wright Realty represented Annapolis Accents' owners Tina White and Leslie Hunt inthe transaction, while Hyatt Real Estate represented the owner.

The C&P; Telephone Co. Community Relations Team of Annapolis recently sponsoreda breakfast meeting at the Bay Ridge Inn in Annapolis for representatives of 20 Annapolis-area organizations and agencies.
C&P; community relations team members Wayne Turner, Jackie Scruggs and team chairman Paul Hileman presented each representative with a corporate contribution check, and Scruggs andTurner each were given an award for their outstanding dedication and commitment to improving the community.
Representatives receiving donations included the Annapolis Chorale, Annapolis Fine Arts Foundation, Girl Scouts of Central Maryland, Providence Center, and 13 area volunteer fire companies.
PROFESSIONAL COURTESY
The Anne Arundel Trade Council is continuing its commitment to helping the needy in the county through the Professional Courtesy program, in which area businesses can provide free expert advise and donated goods to people hurt by the recession.
The program was born of a request by County Executive Robert R. Neall to spearhead create a program to fulfill the council's ongoing commitment.
The program's chair, Margaret Anderson, is the assistant vice president of Maryland National Bank, and the chairman of the trade council's education committee. Anderson utilizes trade council events to request support from member businesses, and the response so far has been good, with donations of baby sitting services, toys, shoes, clothing and resume preparation, among other items and services.
In another cooperative effort between the trade council and the County Department of Social Services, the trade council is sponsoring an ongoing series in its newsletter profiling county facilities such as Sarah's House, a homeless shelter, and Mary's Mount Manor, a residential home for abusedadolescent girls.

SHOWCASE FORBUILDERS
