SHOOTING: Eastern District -- James Carmen, 32, of the 1600 block of N. Broadway, was listed today in fair condition at Johns Hopkins Hospital after he was shot several times on a basketball court at Bocek Park off the 3100 block of E. Madison St. Police said Carmen was at the basketball court shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday when at least two men approached and began shooting. Police said Carmen was hit in the back, chest and groin by at least six bullets, one of which grazed a 13-year-old boy who was nearby. Police said the teen-ager, a resident of the 800 block of N. Linwood Ave., also was taken to Hopkins, where he was treated and released. Police said Carmen had been shot last week and released from a hospital following treatment.

ROBBERY: Southern District -- Police were seeking a man who robbed a couple of their jewelry Sunday as they walked in the 600 block of S. Charles St. about 11 p.m. Police said a gunman took jewelry valued at $3,000 from Michael Gunther, of the 3400 block of W. Lanvale St., and robbed his female companion, Lasheune George, an out-of-town resident, of jewelry valued at $1,400.

ROBBERY: Southern District -- Keith Henry, of the 1700 block of Webster St., told police he was in the 600 block of Light St. early yesterday when a man with a handgun robbed him of $14.

ROBBERY: Southern District -- Police reported that Angela Neiman, of the 1300 block of Hollins St., was robbed of her purse containing cash and property, all valued at more than $100, when she was attacked from behind by a man as she walked in the 1300 block of W. Lombard St. Friday afternoon.

ROBBERY: Northwestern District -- A man wearing a stocking mask and holding one hand inside his shirt as though armed took an undisclosed amount of money from a cash register at the Revco pharmacy at the Reisterstown Road Plaza in the 6800 block of Reisterstown Road about 4 p.m. Sunday after threatening a clerk.

THEFT/ARRESTS: Northeastern District -- Police arrested two men and charged them with theft of flowers from Walther Gardens, a florist in the 4700 block of Walther Ave. Ronald Swinder, 23, of the 4100 block of White Ave., and Wayne Horn, 24, of the 2600 block of Taylor Ave., were awaiting a bail hearing today. Police arrested the two shortly before 1 a.m. yesterday near the shop.

ARRESTS: Northeastern District -- Two youths were arrested yesterday when they attempted to break into a bike shop in the 5000 block of Harford Road. Police said the youths, one 12 and the other 16, were arrested moments after they threw a rock that broke the front window of Pete's Cycle Co. Inc. in the 5000 block of Harford Road. Police said the youths were charged as juveniles and were released in the custody of their parents.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- Salvatore Manning, of the 2900 block of the Alameda, reported that someone entered the bedroom of his home over a period of several days and stole a revolver from inside a dresser drawer.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- A resident of the 4100 block of Westview Road reported that property valued at more than $900 was stolen when someone broke into his home by removing a section of screen from a rear door, then opening the door. Police said stereo equipment, a VCR and a telephone were taken.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- Police reported that a 26-inch bike valued at nearly $200 was taken from a garage in the 3300 block of Hillen Road over the weekend by someone who forced open the door.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- A resident of the 1700 block of Lakeside Ave. reported that someone broke into his garage and stole two bikes and several hand tools, all valued at more than $200.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- Eric Gatson, of the 5500 block of Bowleys Lane, reported that property valued at $60 was stolen from his home over the weekend, and he suspects a visitor.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- Regina Kearney, of the 3900 block of Southclare Road, reported to police that someone entered her home over the weekend and stole property valued at more than $300 from her bedroom closet. She suspects an acquaintance.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- A resident of the 1300 block of Kitmore Road reported that someone broke into his home through a basement window and stole computer equipment and several pieces of jewelry, all valued at more than $1,000.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- Ervin Harris, of the 2700 block of Hugo Ave., reported that someone stole a $200 bike off the front porch of his home over the weekend.

ROBBERY: Northeastern District -- Glenda Frisby, of the 2200 block of Pinewood Ave., reported she on the balcony of her apartment late last night and was attacked by a man who had climbed onto the balcony while she was inside her apartment. Frisby told police the man robbed her of her purse containing cash and property, all valued at nearly $50.

ASSAULT/ARREST: Northeastern District -- Police arrested a man and charged him with pointing a handgun at two teen-age boys who reportedly threw a rock at him and his dog yesterday evening. Police said James Harris, 53, of the 1600 block of Darley Ave., was held pending a bail hearing. Police said Harris was walking his dog near his home around 6 p.m. when two boys, 13 and 17, threw a rock at him and his dog. Police said Harris allegedly pulled out a gun and pointed the weapon at the youths. Following his arrest, police recovered a handgun.

ASSAULT: Western District -- Jerome Davis, of the 4000 block of Hilton Road, and Bryant Taylor, of the 1500 block of Penrose Ave., reported they were in the 1900 block of N. Pulaski St. Sunday when they were each attacked by two men who struck them with a baseball bat. Davis and Taylor were treated at Liberty Medical Center. The victims said they know at least one of the assailants.

SCHOOL BURGLARY: Western District -- Police reported that someone broke into Franklin Square Elementary School in the 1400 block of W. Lexington St. over the weekend and ransacked several classrooms. Police said property of unknown value appeared to be missing from the rooms.

BURGLARY: Western District -- A resident of the 300 block of N. Bruce St. reported that someone broke into his home between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. yesterday and stole a TV, a VCR and stereo recording and receiving equipment, all valued at more than $1,000.

BURGLARY/ARREST: Western District -- Police reported that property valued at nearly $1,500 was stolen from a dwelling in the 900 block of N. Stricker St. over the weekend. Police said someone broke into the house through a rear kitchen door and stole two TVs valued at $478 and several pieces of clothing worth $1,000. Later, police arrested a resident of the 4600 block of Park Heights Ave. in connection with the burglary and were holding him at the station pending burglary charges. Police said the TVs were valued at $478 and that the clothing was worth $1,000. BURGLARY: Western District -- Employees of the J & J auto repair shop in the 1200 block of Presstman St. reported that someone knocked a hole through a wall over the weekend and stole a police scanner, two TVs and the cash register.

BURGLARY: Western District -- Someone broke out a section of wall at the Rose of Sharon Baptist Church in the first block of N. Carey St. over the weekend and stole property of unknown value.

ROBBERY: Western District -- Joseph Campbell, of the 500 block of Sanford Place, reported he was in the 2300 block of Division St. yesterday afternoon when two men, one with a gun, robbed him of about $30.

CUTTING: Western District -- Paul Gibson, of the 1000 block of N. Stricker St., reported he was in the 100 block of N. Calhoun St. early last evening when a man known as "Dookie" and another man attacked him and stabbed him in the left side with a knife. Gibson was admitted to the University of Maryland Medical Center.

ASSAULT: Southwestern District -- Bridgette Roche, of the 1800 block of Forest Park Ave., reported that a man struck her with a hammer during a dispute at her home. A suspect was being held pending a bail hearing.

THEFT: Southwestern District -- Employees of Shoney's Motor Inn in the 1400 block of Bloomfield Ave. reported that someone entered an office behind the front desk over the weekend and stole nearly $700 from an unattended area.

BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- Police said someone opened a lock in the main fence gate at Direct Express Inc. in the 100 block of McPhail St. over the weekend and stole arc welding equipment of unknown value.

Baltimore County

EXPLOSION: Cockeysville District -- Someone threw a military explosive device onto the paving of the 1400 block of Providence Road last evening, and bits of metal were found within a 100-foot radius of the scene. Police said members of the Providence Volunteer Fire Company reported seeing a pickup truck speed off north on Providence Road after someone in the vehicle apparently threw the device onto the road. Police said fragments found indicated the device was used for training combat personnel by simulating a ground burst. No injuries or property damage were reported. Police said the fragments were turned over to the county's bomb squad.

Anne Arundel

ABANDONED BABY: Woodland Beach -- Police today were attempting to find a 24-year-old woman who allegedly abandoned her 3-month-old daughter while she worked at a carnival on the grounds of the Woodland Beach Volunteer Fire Co. on Mayo Road over the weekend. Police said carnival workers who were caring for the infant for the past two or three days notified police last night when the baby's mother, Tina M. Hensley, of no fixed address, failed to pick up the child after the carnival closed. Police took the child, Casey Hensley, to Anne Arundel General Hospital, where she was examined and found to be in good health. The infant was turned over to the county Department of Social Services.
