Gerard H. Boetje Exxon tax accountant

Gerard H. "Jerry" Boetje, a former Catonsville resident and corporate tax accountant for Exxon Corp., died Saturday at Nashua Memorial Hospital in Nashua, N.H., of congestive heart failure. He was 78.

nTC Born in Dedham, Mass., Mr. Boetje earned an accounting degree in 1949 from Northeastern University in Boston.

From 1941 to 1945, he served in the Army Air Force in Florida as a radar instructor and technician. He was discharged as a staff sergeant.

Mr. Boetje lived in Catonsville from 1971 to 1987. He retired in 1976 from Exxon, where he had worked since 1939.

In 1987, he moved to New Portland, Maine.

He belonged to the Weaver's Guild of Greater Boston.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dorothy R. "Dottie" Boetje of New Portland, Maine; a son, Gerard J. Boetje of Framingham, Mass.; a daughter, Elizabeth Chestnutt of Nashua, N.H.; and five grandchildren.

The family suggested that donations be made to New Portland Community Church, New Portland, Maine, 04954. A memorial service is being planned.
