THE BALTIMORE SUN

THE BUDLOW CORNER STORE 1501 Bolton St. Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays to Fridays; 9 to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. Call 669-6680.

This Bolton Hill store offers a variety of sandwiches, salads and quiches as well as daily specials. On a recent visit, the Jamaican meat patty ($1.75) was filled with a tasty, slightly spicy mixture of beef, celery and carrots. A generous serving of broccoli and mushroom quiche ($3.50), made by Ms. Desserts, made a good companion to a freshly made carrot and broccoli salad.

Daily specials ($4.95 to $5.95) include such side orders as marinated vegetables, and potatoes with rosemary. The bagged lunch special ($4.95) includes the sandwich of the day, chips, a homemade dessert and soda.

Soups vary from gazpacho to black bean at $2 an order.

Budlow's also offers carryout Sunday breakfasts, served from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., which include Belgian waffles with fruit topping ($3.50) and bagels with lox and cream cheese ($3.75). The Continental breakfast, at $2 an order, comes with a cup of Budlow's special house blend of coffee.

One of the greatest pleasures is to sit outside at a cafe table, munch something delicious and enjoy the sidewalk scenery of this historic downtown neighborhood.
