North Carroll captures 6th championship, 5-4 State Class 3A softball

North Carroll maintained its perfect mark in state championship games by defeating Elkton, 5-4, in the state Class 3A softball title game last night at Upton Park.

The win was North Carroll's sixth in six appearances in the title game and the sixth of seven trips to the tournament. The only loss in state tournament play came in 1989, two years to the day from yesterday, when Surrattsville's Michelle Collins struck out 53 in a 23-inning game.

But such was not the case last night, as the Panthers built a 5-1 lead in the second inning, then withstood two Elkton rallies to repeat as Class 3A champions.
