Man using walker hit by car, killed

THE BALTIMORE EVENING SUN

A man using a walker was struck and killed by a car early today while crossing York Road near Cranbrook Road in Cockeysville, Baltimore County police said.

Officer Dennis Coster of the Cockeysville station, who was parked nearby, saw a southbound Nissan strike the victim about 1:40 a.m.

Coster said the man, identified as Wayne Marcellus Kauffman Sr., 51, of Chambersburg, Pa., was thrown onto the hood of the car.

The driver of the car, Daniel Scott Weber, 28, of the 7900 block of Charlesmont Road in Dundalk, was taken to the Greater Baltimore Medical Center for treatment of cuts he received when the windshield broke, police said.

Coster said the victim's car was parked at a nearby restaurant and that he may have been walking across the road to buy a newspaper.

Police said the investigation is continuing.
