Plans for North County High School will be discussed during the school board meeting set for 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Board of Education's Riva Road headquarters.

School board members are scheduled to discuss revisions to the North County High School plans. New cost estimates for the school have risen to $17.6 million, from the original $11.4 million estimate.

That increase has already angered many parents and led to some harsh words last week between the school board and County Council.

In other matters scheduled for tonight's meeting:

* The school system's special education program will be reviewed including cost estimates and student projections for next school year.

* Board members should hear whether cost-saving measures have resolved this year's $8million budget deficit.

School officials are hoping that savings based on cutbacks in energy, maintenance, instructional supplies and salaries may leave a $1.3 million surplus in the operating budget by the end of the school year.

* Plans for a merger of Board of Education insurance programs with other county government departments, to reduce costs for all departments, will be discussed.

The consolidation plan would include general liability, professional malpractice, business vehicle coverage, school bus contractors, worker's compensation and unemployment.

* Contract awards will be granted for asbestos removal at Lindale Junior High. School Superintendent Larry L. Lorton has recommended the $477,600 asbestos abatement contract be givento Kim Van Company Inc., and the air monitoring contract of $37,165 go to Briggs Associates.
