More than 500 Retired Senior Volunteers of Anne Arundel County will be honored during a recognition luncheon at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 23, at Michael's Eighth Avenue.

The luncheon, sponsored by the RSVP Advisory Council and the Department of Aging, will pay tribute to the participants of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. These volunteers work at more than 64 sites throughout the county, and last year performed more than 90,000 hours of service -- a savings to the county of about $311,000.

The volunteers serve in the public school system, the Maryland State Law Library, the Maryland State Police at BWI, senior centers andnutrition sites, thrift shops, Downs Park and other non-profit sitesin the county.

Volunteers attending the evening will be greeted by state and local government officials, the guest speaker will be Johnnie E. Jowers, executive director of the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs.

Entertainment will be provided by the Oldies but Goodies, a group made up of RSVP volunteers from the Burwood Nutrition site.
