An elderly woman was killed and another woman was injured when two vehicles collided on Md. 97 near Saw Mill Road in the Union Mills section of Carroll County, State Police in Westminster report.

Police said Daisy Ula Sloan, 75, of the 3400 block of Littlestown Pike in Westminster, was driving a 1989 Geo north on Md. 97 about 3 p.m. yesterday when she crossed the center line and crashed into a 1988 GMC pickup truck driven by John Fox, 60, of the first block of Klee Mill Road in Eldersburg.

The Geo came to rest in the middle of the road. The pickup crossed the road and struck a mail box near the driveway of a home.

Sloan was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

John Fox was not injured, but his wife, Shirley Fox, 64, was taken by ambulance to Carroll County General Hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries and released, police said.

The state medical examiner's office in Baltimore was to perform an autopsy to determine whether Sloan had a fatal heart attack before the collision, police said.
