University of Maryland athletic director Andy Geiger said yesterday that the university is prepared to be a host team in the opening round game in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I tournament if the Terps are awarded a game tomorrow.

The selection committee will meet tomorrow afternoon and pick 12 teams. Maryland is ranked No. 7 in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll, and there is a good chance the Terps (8-4) could be host to Towson State (8-3) in an opening-round game Wednesday.

There is speculation that the Terps might not be awarded a home game because Byrd Stadium is under renovation and Maryland officials did not charge admission for home games played on the soccer team's Denton Field.

"I've already told the selection committee we're ready and able to host a game," said Geiger. "The field is in good playing shape, we will charge admission, and we can provide the proper security. I think our players have played hard and earned the right on the field to play a game at home in the playoffs."

Meanwhile, three local teams play today. Loyola (7-3) travels to C.W. Post (4-7), Towson (8-3) will try to capture the East Coast Conference championship at Delaware (6-9), and UMBC (8-6) is host to New Hampshire (9-3).
