BRYN MAWR, Pa. -- Darren Daulton left a hospital yesterday,two days after a car accident injured the Philadelphia Phillies catcher and teammate Lenny Dykstra.

Daulton, his left eye bruised but unbandaged, left Bryn Mawr Hospital at midday wearing green hospital garb and accompanied by his wife, Lynne. Daulton, 29, thanked people for their prayers and support and got into his car, buckling the seat belt, with his wife at the steering wheel.

Daulton's left cornea was scratched, and he fractured his left eye socket in the accident early Monday. He was a passenger in Dykstra's car at the time of the accident, after both had left a bachelor party for teammate John Kruk. Dykstra has been charged with drunken driving.

Neither was wearing a seat belt.

David Rose, a surgeon at the hospital, said Tuesday that Daulton's vision apparently was not impaired.

Dykstra remained in fair condition at the hospital yesterday, hospital spokeswoman Ellen Mattus said. He broke three right ribs, his right collarbone and a bone beneath his right eye and he possibly bruised his heart.

... DODGERS: Orel Hershiser began his comeback froreconstructive shoulder surgery, pitching five scoreless innings for the Class A Bakersfield Dodgers.

Hershiser allowed two hits, struck out two and walked none in a 9-4 victory over the Reno Silver Sox. He threw 44 pitches -- 32 for strikes -- and said his shoulder felt fine.
