Detroit Tigers -- Waived IF Tony Bernazard (.167 in 12 AB) for purpose of giving him unconditional release.

Kansas City Royals -- Recalled 3B Sean Berry and 2B Nelson Liriano from Class AAA Omaha. Sent IF David Howard (.083 in 12 AB) to Omaha and designated 1B Russ Morman (.261 in 23 AB) for assignment.

Milwaukee Brewers -- Acquired OF Chris Knabenshue froPhiladelphia Phillies and sent him to Class AAA Denver.

Philadelphia Phillies -- Signed C Gary Tremblay and assigned him to Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Texas Rangers -- Announced that bone chips and a bone spur were removed from right elbow of P Brad Arnsberg (0-1, 8.22 ERA) during arthroscopic surgery. He was placed on 15-day DL Monday.

Albuquerque Dukes (Class AAA) -- Activated IF-OF Mickey Hatcher.


San Antonio Spurs -- Announced they will not exercise contract option on F David Greenwood (3.8 ppg, 3.5 rpg), making him unrestricted free agent.

Washington Bullets -- Named Towson State graduate Bonnie Dowling (WMAR-TV assistant director of public affairs) community relations director, replacing Judy Holland, who recently was promoted to vice president of operations in Baltimore.


Albertus Magnus -- Announced resignation of Will Cumpstone, men's basketball coach. Named Tom Blake, men's basketball coach.

Colorado -- Named Ben Gregory running backs coach.

Lamar -- Announced resignation of David Perkins, baseball coach.

Tonya Harding -- 1991 U.S. senior ladies champion left coach Dody Teachman to rejoin former coach Diane Rawlinson.


Cleveland Browns -- Signed free agents K Ken Edelman (set 8 NCAA Division III scoring records at Mount Union College) and QB Gene Benhart (12th-round choice of Indianapolis Colts in 1990).

Phoenix Cardinals -- DL Eric Swann, the sixth pick in the first round, likely will miss rookie camp next month after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery to repair torn lateral meniscus cartilage.
