WARTIME DONATIONS RISE

50 Years Ago (week of May 4-May 10, 1941): A county-wide quota of $1,500 in donations to the Red Cross was sent this week by Howard County Chairman Daniel M. Murray Jr. This represented an increase of $300 over the amount raised the previous year.

25 Years Ago (week of May 1-May 7, 1966): Glenn W. Wolfe, the owner of Colonial Cars and Parts Inc. on Washington Boulevard, was arrested Saturday and charged with noncompliance with the Department of Health's order that banned theopen-air burning of automobiles on his property. Wolfe notified the Board of County Commissioners Tuesday that he had nearly completed plans for an incinerator that he said would eliminate all smoke and offensive odors associated with the burning.

* State Sen. James Clark filed this week to run as the Democraticcandidate for the newly created senatorial subdistrict 3C, which wascomposed of all of Howard County and part of Montgomery County.
