INTRODUCTION

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Carroll County faces a future of growth, rapid development and increasing tourism.

Tourism revenues in 1989 exceeded $50 million, a 12percent increase.

In 1980, Carroll had 96,000 residents; today, the county has 130,291. As more Marylanders find themselves priced out of Baltimore and the neighboring counties, many are moving here. A large segment of these newcomers includes young families with school-age children.

Soin addition to providing information for tourists, this guide contains an extensive directory of information for newcomers as well.

Information was gathered by Ellie Baublitz between March and April, 1991. Each and every business or organization was contacted for updated information; those who did not respond are not included. We suggest you use this as a guide; to check for the latest information, please call the telephone numbers listed.

For those who want to be in the 1992 guide, please send us your information in early 1992.

Additional copies are available through the Carroll Office of Tourism, whosehelp -- especially that of Joan Meekins -- we appreciate.
