Here's what to look out for if...

Here's what to look out for if you're traveling in the Baltimore metropolitan area this week, based on information from state and local highway agencies and the Mass Transit Administration. The list of highway projects includes only newly announced work, not ongoing construction, which is currently extensive on several highways, including Interstate 95, U.S. 50/301 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. Highway plans are subject to change because of weather or other factors.

New highway projects

The Hanover Street Bridge is closed to marine and vehicular traffic. This closure is to install new equipment at the drawbridge. The bridge will reopen at 5 a.m. May 6.

Light-rail construction

* Northbound Park Avenue at Mulberry Street: Park Avenue reduced to one lane due to construction.

* Dolphin Street between Howard Street and Mount Royal Avenue now one-way westbound. Traffic coming from south via Martin Luther King Boulevard destined for northbound Jones Falls Expressway continues east to Chase Street, east on Chase to Cathedral Street, then north at the 1100 block of Cathedral to Mount Royal Avenue and the expressway.

Bus route changes

The MTA has scheduled the following changes in bus routes for this week. For more information, call 539-5000; TTY for the hearing-impaired, 539-3497.

Walters Art Gallery Parade

Nos. 1, 3, 11 and 31: Because of a Walters Art Gallery parade from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today, the following diversions will be in effect:

No. 1: When northbound, buses will travel on Conway Street, Interstate 395, Howard Street, Lombard Street, Eutaw Street to Fayette Street instead of Charles and Fayette streets.

No. 3: When southbound, the line will terminate on Camden Street behind Festival Hall instead of the Inner Harbor. When northbound, buses will travel on Howard, Pratt Street, Calvert Street, Madison to Charles instead of Charles.

No. 11: When southbound, buses will travel via Eutaw, Pratt, Calvert, Madison to Charles instead of Baltimore and Charles.

No. 31: When northbound, buses will travel on Calvert between Pratt and Madison instead of Charles.

Preakness Parade

Nos. 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 14, 15, 19, 20, 21, 23, 27, 28 (Mondawmin Service), 28 (State Center Service), 31, 35, 36, 43, 61, 62, 63, 64, 70, 91 and 210: Because of the Preakness Parade from 6:15 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday, the following diversions will be in effect:

No. 1: Southbound service will use Hopkins Place, Sharp, Hill, and Hanover instead of Baltimore and Light streets. Northbound service will use Conway, I-395, Howard, Lombard, Eutaw and Fayette instead of Charles and Fayette.

No. 2: Eastbound service will terminate on Lombard Street between Hopkins Place and Howard Street behind the Baltimore Arena and will use Hopkins and Lombard instead of going to City Hall. Westbound service will originate on Lombard between Hopkins Place and Howard behind the Baltimore Arena and will use Lombard, Eutaw to Fayette instead of originating at City Hall.

No. 3: Southbound service will terminate on Lombard Streebetween Hopkins Place and Howard Street behind the Baltimore Arena and will use Preston, Dolphin, Druid Hill, Centre, Cathedral, Liberty, Hopkins, Lombard instead of going to the Inner Harbor. Northbound service will originate on Lombard between Hopkins Place and Howard behind the Baltimore Arena and will use Lombard, Eutaw, McCulloh, Dolphin, Park, Biddle to Charles instead of originating at the Inner Harbor.

Nos. 5, 20, 35, 36, 63 and 64: No change in route. Service will gthrough when breaks in the parade occur. Expect delays.

No. 7: Southbound service will operate eastbound on BaltimorStreet between Greene and President streets instead of Pratt Street.

No. 8: All southbound service will terminate and all northbounservice will originate westbound on Redwood Street between South and Calvert streets instead of the Inner Harbor or the University of Maryland Transit Center.

Nos. 10, 14, 28 (State Center Service) and 43 (5 to 9:30 p.m.)Northbound service will terminate and southbound service will originate southbound on Eutaw Street at Monument Street instead of State Center.

No. 11: Northbound service will use Eutaw, McCulloh, DolphinPark, Biddle to Charles instead of Baltimore and Charles. Southbound service will use Preston, Dolphin, Druid Hill and Centre to Cathedral instead of straight down Maryland and Cathedral.

Nos. 15 and 23: Will not operate on Saratoga between Calverand Eutaw streets, but will use Calvert/St. Paul, Preston/Biddle, Dolphin, Druid Hill/McCulloh and Eutaw.

No. 19: All southbound service will terminate and all northbounservice will originate on Redwood Street between South and Calvert streets instead of State Center. From 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., all southbound service will terminate and northbound service will originate southbound on Eutaw at Monument.

No. 21 (5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.): All eastbound service will operatstraight across Dolphin to Howard instead of Eutaw and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

No. 27 (5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.): Southbound service will terminaton Lombard Street between Hopkins Place and Howard Street behind the Baltimore Arena and will use Dolphin, Druid Hill, Eutaw, Baltimore, Hopkins and Lombard instead of terminating at Albemarle Street (service will continue to Albemarle until 6:15 p.m.). Northbound service will originate on Lombard between Hopkins Place and Howard behind the Baltimore Arena and will use Lombard, Eutaw, McCulloh, Dolphin to Howard instead of originating at Albemarle.

No. 28 (Mondawmin Service) (5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.): Northbounservice will use Madison, McCulloh, Dolphin to Howard instead of straight up Eutaw Street. Southbound service will use Dolphin and Druid Hill to Eutaw instead of straight down Eutaw.

No. 31: Eastbound service will use Paca, McCulloh, DolphinPark, Biddle to Charles instead of Lombard and Charles. Westbound service will use Preston, Dolphin, Druid Hill, Centre to Cathedral instead of Chase, Maryland and Cathedral.

Nos. 61 and 62: Southbound service will use Baltimore, Soutand Redwood streets, where it will terminate instead of proceeding to the Inner Harbor. Northbound service will originate at Redwood instead of the Inner Harbor.

No. 70: Service will be cut back at Baltimore Street and will usBaltimore, Calvert to Centre instead of Light, Lombard, Charles to Centre.

No. 91 (5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.): Eastbound service will use DolphinDruid Hill to Eutaw instead of straight down Eutaw Street. After 6:30 p.m., service will terminate on Lombard between Hopkins Place and Howard Street behind the Baltimore Arena instead of City Hall. Northbound service will use Eutaw, McCulloh, Dolphin to Eutaw instead of straight up Eutaw. After 6:30 p.m., service will originate on Lombard between Hopkins Place and Howard behind the Baltimore Arena instead of City Hall.

No. 210 (5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.): Northbound service will use PacaMcCulloh, Dolphin to Park instead of Baltimore and Eutaw. Southbound service will use Cathedral, Liberty and Hopkins Place between Centre and Lombard. Dolphin and McCulloh will jTC be used between Preston and Centre streets instead of Eutaw.

Light-rail construction

Nos. 1 (northbound), 2 (westbound), 5 (northbound), 8 University of Maryland Transit Center (southbound), 20 (westbound), 35 (westbound), 36 (southbound) and 91 (northbound) -- until 5 a.m. tomorrow, Fayette Street at Howard Street will be closed for construction of the future Central Light Rail Line. The bus lines will travel via the regular route westbound on Fayette to Liberty Street, then south on Liberty, south on Hopkins Place, west on Lombard Street, north on Eutaw Street to Fayette, then via the regular route.

No. 160 -- until further notice, the temporary route will be changed because of light-rail construction in the area of Pratt and Howard streets. When eastbound, via the present temporary route to Pratt and Howard, then east on Pratt, south on Sharp Street, west on Conway Street, south on I-395, then via the regular route.

Nos. 1 (southbound), 2 (eastbound), 5 (southbound), 8 University of Maryland Transit Center (northbound), 11 (northbound), 20 (eastbound), 35 (eastbound), 36 (northbound) and 91 (southbound) -- because of light-rail construction, Baltimore Street at Howard Street will be closed, necessitating the following diversions. Until 5 a.m. tomorrow, the No. 1 line will operate on Pratt Street between Eutaw and Light streets instead of Baltimore Street. The Nos. 2, 5, 8, 20, 35, 36 and 91 will operate on Pratt between Eutaw and Gay streets instead of Baltimore. The No. 11 will operate on Pratt between Eutaw and Charles streets instead of Baltimore. Effective midnight Friday and continuing until 5 a.m. May 13, No. 1 line buses will travel via the regular route eastbound on Baltimore to Eutaw Street, then south on Eutaw, east on Pratt Street, south on Light Street, then via the regular route. For all other bus lines listed above, via the regular route to Baltimore and Eutaw, then south on Eutaw, east on Pratt, north on Charles Street to Baltimore, then via the regular route.

Temporary diversion

No. M6: From 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Woodlawn Drive between Gwynn Oak Avenue and Windsor Mill Road will be closed, necessitating the following temporary route. When northbound, via regular route westbound on Gwynn Oak Avenue to Woodlawn Drive, south on Gwynn Oak, west on Windsor Mill, south on Woodlawn, then via regular route. When southbound, via regular route northbound on Woodlawn to Windsor Mill, east on Windsor Mill, north on Gywnn Oak, east on Gwynn Oak, via regular route.

Stadium diversions

Because of Orioles games and other events at Memorial Stadium, 33rd Street is made one-way eastbound before such events and one-way westbound afterward. This change in traffic necessitates temporary diversions for these lines.

Before events:

No. 3 westbound: Regular route to 33rd and Loch Raven Boulevard, south on Loch Raven, west on Exeter Hall, west on 29th Street, north on Barclay Street, west on 31st Street, south on St. Paul Street, via regular route.

No. 22 westbound: Regular route to 33rd and Loch Raven, south on Loch Raven, west on Exeter Hall, west on 29th, north on Barclay, west on University Parkway, via regular route.

After events:

No. 3 eastbound: Regular route to Charles Street and 31st, east on 31st, north on Barclay, east on 32nd Street, north on Tinges Lane, east on Gorsuch Avenue, north on Loch Raven, east on 33rd, via regular route.

No. 22 eastbound: Regular route to University and 33rd, south on Barclay, east on 32nd, north on Tinges, east on Gorsuch, north on Loch Raven, east on 33rd, via regular route.

New service

No. 73 Penn Station Shuttle: A new morning shuttle service is now operating weekdays between Penn Station and downtown Baltimore. The route to Baltimore and return to Penn Station is as follows -- from the layover point southbound on St. Paul Street on the far side of Lanvale Street, then south on St. Paul, south on Light Street, west on Conway Street, north on Charles Street, east on North Avenue, south on St. Paul to the designated layover point on Lanvale.
