Jason White, 20, thought by physicians to be the first person to live to adulthood without taking a bite of food, died April 26 in Houston of blood poisoning from microorganisms. Mr. White suffered from vasoactive intestinal polypeptide syndrome, an extremely rare condition that inhibits the intestine's ability to digest and absorb food. Mr. White, who grew to 6 feet tall and 181 pounds, was fed intravenously. The source of his ailment wasn't identified until 1978.
