Orioles update

They play 12 of their next 18 on the road, starting with a 9-game West Coast trip, after a 2-4 homestand. The offense continues to be a problem. They collected only 3 hits in Wednesday night's 2-1 victory over Seattle. McDonald has struggled in 2 starts but beat California in his only 1990 start against the Angels. Ballard was 0-2 last season against the Angels, who have lost 4 straight to Baltimore. Bill Ripken was the leading hitter against California last year (.346). Glenn Davis will join the team for workouts after visiting another specialist in Cleveland yesterday.

Angels update

They have won only 1 season series in the past 12 with Baltimore, tying 3. Chuck Finley, their ace, will not pitch this time. Jim Abbott was 2-0 in last year's series, but Mark Langston was 0-2, and half of the Orioles he faced (24 of 48) reached base against him. The relief corps has been exceptional, allowing an earned run in only 5 of 19 appearances. The hottest hitter is Wally Joyner (22-for-63, .347). Lance Parrish (6-for-43) and Dave Winfield (5-for-38) are slumping. Bert Blyleven has been disabled since the start of the season.
