Intercontinental Consultants Corp., a Baltimore-based provider of information about the tobacco and candy industries, is changing its name to ICC Corp., effective May 1.

Kudos

Pell Communications, a television advertising association based in Cincinnati, won a Telly Award for a 30-second television advertisement produced for Len Stoler Nissan in Westminster. The ad was produced at Sheffield Audio-Video Productions in Phoenix.

WBAL Radio 11 news staff won the following awards from the Radio and Television News Director Association: Best Documentary/In-Depth Reporting; Best Investigative Reporting; Best Spot News Reporting; and Overall Excellence.

U.S. Small Business Administration, Baltimore office, presented the following awards: John and Joy Korpela of Kreative Plastics Inc. in Frostburg, Small Business Persons of the Year; Maria Fleischmann of Innovative Gourmet in Owings Mills, Young Entrepreneur of the Year; Warren G. Miller of Atlantic Fitness Products, Small Business Exporter of the Year; Richard M. Aarons of the Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce, Small Business Advocate of the Year; Jacqueline McLean, vice president of the Baltimore City Council, Minority Small Business Advocate of the Year; and Mary Ann Chasen of Accurate Typing Service of Lexington Park, Women in Business Advocate of the Year.

Lucy Y. Steinitz was named Maryland Social Worker of the Year by the Maryland Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. Dr.Steinitz is executive director of Jewish Family Services of Baltimore.

Robert W. Vandenberg was named to the American Funds Group All-American Team. Mr. Vandenberg is an investment executive in the Hunt Valley office of Legg Mason, Wood Walker Inc.

Gray Kirk & Evans, a Baltimore-based advertising and public relations agency, won a merit award from the New York Art Directors Club for a direct-mail campaign produced for the restaurant at Cross Keys Inn in Baltimore. The agency also won three ADDY Awards in the second district of the American Advertising Federation, which includes Maryland, New York, Washington, Pennsylvania and Delaware.

World Book Educational Products presented Honor Society Awards to Beverly Pugsley of Towson, Mary Ann Loughran of Baltimore, Lavina Haupt of Baltimore and Diana Bauer of Baltimore.

Mary M. Gianforte was named Young Dietitian of 1991 by the Maryland Dietetic Association. Ms. Gianforte is a dietitian at the Professional Center for North Arundel Hospital.

Advertising and Professional Club of Baltimore recently honored Edwin F. Hale, owner and president of Port East Transfer, and the Very Rev. Constantine Monios, dean of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral.

John W. Felton was named Public Relations Professional of the Year by PR News. Mr. Felton is corporate vice president of McCormick & Co.

Consulting Engineers Council of Metropolitan Washington named these winners in its Drafting Competition: Gerard Balancy of Camp Dresser & McKee Inc.; Mark Han of GHT Ltd.; Yuen Lee of Kamber Engineering; Walter Salo of GHT Ltd.; Patrick Wintermyer of Structural Engineering Corp. for computer-assistant drafting; Donald Gordon of Camp Dresser & McKee Inc.; Jerry Herrick of CH2M Hill; Edgardo Lagrama of Allison, McCormac & Nickolaus; Mike Rapier of E. Maryland Law School Alumni Association gave William S. James the Distinguished Alumnus Award and Nevett Steele Jr. the Benjamin L. Cardin Pro Bono Service Award.

John T. Hazel Jr. was named Man of the Years by the Greater Washington Board of Trade. Mr. Hazel is principal of Hazel/Peterson Cos.

Trade organizations

Professional Engineers in Private Practice, a division of the National Society of Professional Engineers, named James W. Blake to the Private Practice Employees Advisory Committee. He is a project manager in the development engineering department for McCrone Inc. in Annapolis.

Capital Area Franchise Association elected Ed Arrington and Valerie Maione of General Business Services in Columbia to the board of directors.

American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers named Gary E. Johnson a fellow. Mr. Johnson is vice president of Henry Adams Inc., a Towson-based consulting engineering company.

Public service

NCNB Corp. gave $50,000 to help expand the NAACP's National Teachers Exam preparation clinics. The clinics are a series of workshops designed to increase the number of African-American teachers in public schools.

US Sprint joined a campaign called Closing the Loop to promote recycling in Maryland, Washington and Northern Virginia. US Sprint's contribution is paying for a toll-free number, (800) I-RECYCL, for recycling information.

Signet Bank gave $1,000 to the Neighborhood Design Center.

Downtown Partnership of Baltimore Inc. named the following to the board of directors: Ronald E. Creamer, of counsel with Weinberg and Green; Robert W. Grose, principal in charge of administration and support services for Alex. Brown & Sons; Martin Lastner, general manager of Harborplace for the Rouse Co.; and Leonard Sachs, representative of Market Place for Charles Street Management Corp.
