Longtime City Councilman W. Robert Flickinger will seek another four-year term. He and incumbent Jacquelyn Polk are the only candidates vying for two council seats in the May 6 municipal election.

Flickinger, who serves as mayor pro-tem, has sat on the five-member councilfor nearly 20 years, he said.

Although Flickinger, 58, said there are no real issues, he remains concerned about controlling growth in the city -- a subject two of the three mayoral candidates, Henry C. Heine Jr. and incumbent Henry I. Reindollar, have voiced concerns about as well.

The third mayoral candidate is political novice George W. Dodson Sr.

Flickinger, a mechanic for Random House Inc. in Westminster, said several people pressed him to seek re-election.

"I'm basically a community-oriented person," Flickinger said. "I like to serve my community."

One of the issues he wants to tackle during his next term is a curbside recycling program. He said a curbside program is the only way the citywill reach the state-mandated 15 percent recycling goal by January 1994.

"We aren't going to get there by people running to recycling center," he said.
