THE BALTIMORE SUN

DURHAM, N.C. -- Tournament MVP Dennis Goldstein set two records as top-ranked North Carolina routed No. 4 Maryland, 18-8, in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game at Duke last night.

The Tar Heels (13-0), who outshot Maryland (8-3), 57-29, have won four straight ACC championships.

Goldstein scored a career-high six goals and dished out two assists to set two tournament records: most points in tournament (10) and most goals in a game (six).

North Carolina raced to an 8-1 halftime lead and extended it to 10-1 early in the third quarter. The Terps scored four straight goals to pull to 10-5, but got no closer.

Mark Douglas scored three goals to lead Maryland, and Rob Wurzburger added two.

John Webster (Boys' Latin), Dan Donnelly, Jim Buczek and Steve Speers each scored two goals for the Tar Heels.
